EDPR SIGNS AGREEMENT TO RECYCLE WIND TURBINE BLADES

EDPR has joined forces with a spin-off of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) to proactively address the issue of recycling obsolete wind farm equipment.

The spin-off, called Thermal Recycling of Composites (TRC), has developed the technology behind the R3FIBER system, which will allow EDPR to efficiently recycle the complex materials that make up wind turbine blades, such as carbon fiber and fiberglass. Under this pilot initiative, faulty or damaged wind turbine blades will be recycled, and the program is expected to expand to include blades from EDPR wind farms that have reached the end of their life cycle.

With this agreement, EDPR is being proactive in addressing the issue of future wind energy waste. This issue is especially relevant in Spain, which is ranked fourth in the world for installed wind power capacity.
